Venue: Castello di Petroia, Perugia, Umbria, Italy
Medium: Watercolor
Paint loose and splashy watercolors of vibrant Umbria during this 7-day workshop with Sarah B. Hansen at the luxuriously renovated Castello di Petroia near the unique and historic hillside town of Gubbio. September in Umbria glows with warm Italian light, enhancing the form, color, and texture of your impressionistic watercolors. With an up-close, exuberant approach, Sarah will guide you painting views of and from an authentic twelfth century castle including details of the surrounding countryside of wooded hills, cultivated fields, olive groves and vineyards.
During this 7-day course, instruction will include lessons on pigment choices, composition, value, color study, water-to-paint ratio, technique, and edge control. The curriculum will include lectures, demonstrations, group painting, and generous personal instruction by Sarah, combining both plein air and studio work.
The venue for this week-long art immersion is the 10th Century Castello di Petroia, an authentic medieval fortress perched on a hilltop between the towns of Perugia and Gubbio, with inspiring views of the surrounding landscape. The castle, birthplace of Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino (b.1422), is surrounded by a 600-acre traditional Umbrian farm with beautiful olive groves, hiking and horse-riding trails, meadows, woods and abundant wildlife.
