Drawing on examples of work that feel deeply rooted in the people who made them, Ingrid will open a conversation about how this kind of authenticity takes shape. Along the way, she will explore practical ways artists can begin recognizing and bringing forward their own instincts and interests in their work.

  1. Loved this; thank you so much. Encouraging and sensible advice that we can all follow. Great to have the benefit of your experience, Ingrid and thank you, Martha for making these recordings available.

  2. Thank you Ingrid for your presentation. I’ve watched the recording and found so much of it encouraging! I’ve been working on a painting that I’d got to the end of wanting to put on any more layers to “save” it. After watching your art chat I found a part that I actually liked and cropped it out. I’m going to start a visual diary to put it in and learn from the things I like about my paintings instead of feeling overwhelmed that I can’t do this! Thank you so much!!

  3. This was one of the most thoughtful responses to this question I have ever seen either as a live presenter or in the written word. Your personal observations and the examples you highlight are a beautiful call to action and reflection. Thank you.

  4. Thank you for a great presentation. Much of what you mentioned resonated exactly with me and the artists you spoke about (Catherine Kehoe and Euan Uglow, esp) are some favorites of mine to study as well.

  5. Couldn’t make the live presentation but so glad to have had the opportunity to watch the recording! Outstanding presentation! And thanks for sharing the work of Alex Kanevsky. I was not familiar with his work. I’m now following him in Instagram 🙂 Thank you again!

  6. THANK YOU for taking the time to put together yet another exceptionally inspiring presentation, Ingrid! And thank you Martha, for sharing this wonderful celebration of creativity.

  7. That was the most inspiring art talk I have ever heard. It hit me on many levels. It nailed me with the hiding hands in a painting… And I laughed out loud when she talked about the advice people give her including well meaning dad. Thank you Winslow Art Center for offering this Spring Fling to us!
