Take charge of your painting materials with this comprehensive look at brushes, oil paint mediums and painting surfaces.   

Ingrid will demonstrate and discuss:

  • a selection of traditional and modern paint additives, from oils and solvents to alkyds and waxes.  You’ll learn which mediums are best for different painting techniques as well as how to safely use and dispose of them.
  • a variety of brush shapes and types – both synthetic and natural – to help you choose the right brush for each technique.  You’ll see how different brush shapes and bristles affect the types of marks that you can make .  As well, you’ll learn about the relationship between paint consistency and bristle type.
  • the benefits and drawbacks of several different painting surfaces.  You’ll see how a surface affects the marks that you make and learn how to choose, or make, the right surface for your painting style.  Ingrid will demonstrate using canvas, linen, wood and aluminum.

 

Ingrid is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the technical aspects of oil painting and enjoys answering your questions.  You’ll be invited to ask questions throughout the demonstration.

Ingrid Christensen is an award winning painter and instructor who specializes in figurative and still life oil painting. Influenced by French and Russian Impressionism, her work is an exploration of light, color and dynamic mark making.

A self-proclaimed “paint nerd”, Ingrid has written and featured in Winsor & Newton Masterclass videos, contributed articles to Artsy Magazine, and taught sold-out workshops in Canada and Mexico.

About Our Past Technique Takeaways:

Discover specific art techniques that you can ‘take away’ from some of your favorite artists and apply to your own work. This one-and-a-half hour recorded presentation will showcase a process that the artist incorporates in their daily art practice.  Instruction will be through a combination of lecture and demonstration. 

You’ll be able to watch the class recording as many times as you would like for two months (for example, for a purchase on March 4th at noon, the recording would be available until May 4th at noon). There are no ongoing charges.
