In this Technique Takeaway, painter and instructor Scott Gellatly will focus on the role that mark-making plays in his abstracted landscape paintings. Scott pulls his inspiration from the varied colors and visual texture of nature and expresses these qualities through the physicality of paint.
Scott will discuss and demonstrate key aspects of his artistic process – including his use of reference imagery, surface preparation, palette set-up, tools and painting mediums – and how each of these play a roll in achieving his expressive mark-making.
Scott Gellatly holds a degree in painting and drawing from the University of Oregon and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. A landscape painter at heart, Scott’s work has become more abstracted, with greater emphasis on pure color and gestural mark-making to evoke nature.
Scott is an Oregon native and lives in Portland with his family. www.scottgellatly.com
