Date: Friday, June 13, 2025
Time: 2:00-3:30PM Pacific Time/5:00-6:30 PM Eastern Time/10:00-11:30 PM London Time
Medium: All

The Old Masters used very specific harmonic and dynamic design systems to create their brilliant compositions. These systems fell out a favor about 100 years ago but are still very relevant today and are used by contemporary masters. Artist Philip Frey will walk you through a little bit of the history of the system, why it’s helpful, how you can use it to create more masterful and pleasing compositions.

In the past twenty years, Philip Frey has developed into one of Maine’s finest landscape painters. Known as a brilliant colorist, Frey paints Maine’s harbors and islands with a bold and sensitive palette that captures the light and moods of his home state, from the streets of Ellsworth and Portland to Monhegan and Acadia National Park. Philip is known for his engaging, illuminating and positive teaching style. He is skilled at addressing his student’s abilities and helping them mature as an artist. His monograph, Philip Frey: Here and Now, by Daniel Kany and Carl Little was published in 2018. He exhibits at Courthouse Gallery Fine Art, Greenhut Galleries, Edgewater Gallery, and Carver Hill Gallery and will be featured in group exhibitions at both Greenhut Galleries and Courthouse Gallery Fine Art, in the spring and summer of 2025.
