About Paul Bailey:

“My work is based on a recollection of memories: hills I have climbed; coastal paths I have walked; and the perception of an horizon that stretches far into the distance. The time-worn landscape of Wales, England and Scotland is my inspiration. My unconventional influences (graffiti, commercial print, illustration and graphic design) provide my direction. My practice explores the process of cognitive storage and interpretation of visual and emotional memory of the landscape: simplification, repartition, distorted spaces, abstraction, colour and dynamics. A fusion of ideas, experimentation tempered by my knowledge and experiences.

Mine is an unconventional route into art. An apprenticeship in commercial illustration leading to a career in the design and print industry, and then finally fulfilling my boyhood dream to become a fine artist.

Alongside exhibiting and selling to patrons all over the world, I have supplied commissioned pieces to international and domestic interior design companies and my work has featured on commercial packaging and book covers too. I regularly give talks and demonstrations to Art Societies, and have recently become a published author with my first book ‘Experimental Nature in Acrylics: Our Landscapes’ published by Batsford Books.”
