Loriann Signori – Cultivating Innocence through Florals (Online Class Recording)

Date recorded: Friday, August 16, 2024
Medium: All

During the act of painting, the painter needs to see freely and cultivate a purity of mind.  That innocence will allow the painter to see without burdening the imagery with names or ideas of what should be. It’s easy to “know too much” and then use repetitive (yet seemingly helpful) techniques.  Patterns and predictability surface. That predictability is the killer of understanding. When you care too much how your painting will turn out, it will never surprise and delight you.  Painting is a dance of react and respond. Open your mind to new ways of responding. After all, why do we paint?

For me that meant moving away from landscape and exploring space through florals.

Points we will examine:

*Delving into the tyranny of the horizon line

*Exploring the aesthetic as the subject

*Talking about ways to quiet yourself into not knowing

*Discovering the similarity between poetry and painting

*Investigating, what do you owe representation?

This technique take-way is applicable to any painter, in any medium.

$40.00 for 2 months

Loriann Signori, with the landscape as her muse, is a creator of luminosity. She allows nature to teach her about color, light and movement. Her work is based in traditional methods, defined by colorist tendencies, and memory. As life- long painter, she received her BFA from Swain School of Design and MFA at American University, but the real work began outdoors and in the studio. Loriann is a faculty member of Pastel Society of America. She is an award-winning artist who has exhibited her work in galleries and museums across the country and won numerous awards.
