Kato D – Drawing for Beginners (All Levels & Mediums Welcome) – Dolly Parton Work-along! (Online); Saturday, October 24 – 10:15am PT / 1:15pm ET / 6:15pm UK Time

Date: Saturday, October 24, 2026

Time: 10:15am Pacific / 1:15pm Eastern / 6:15pm UK Time

Level: Beginner on up

Medium: Applicable to all mediums, Kato will demo in pencil

Presentation Type: Draw-along

Let’s shine our art love on Dolly Parton while increasing our drawing skills in this one hour work-along. Kato will work in pencil using a grid, but feel free to work in any medium or style.

A grid is a helpful tool, especially when learning to draw. A grid helps to abstract what we see into shapes, values and relationships. Grids are very useful to help draw technically accurate man-made objects, portraits and pets or when enlarging an image for a mural.

Free!

Register once to access all events. Your Festival Pass includes Zoom links to the full schedule plus access to recordings, so you can revisit sessions or watch anything you miss.

Kato will demo using pencils, paper, frog tape, sharpener, kneaded eraser, mat, frame, value scale, grid template (optional).

(Detailed supply list, grid template & reference photo will be posted 5-7 days before the class.)

I will make a grid very quickly using my template, which will be included in the supply list packet, but you can draw one easily with just a ruler or not use one at all.  Draw Dolly’s Rolling Stone cover with me or choose your own favorite reference photo. Browse my Dolly Parton Pinterest page for inspiration. We’ll draw as much as we can for an hour, then continue to work on your drawing/painting longer if you like. When you’re happy with it, please share your Dolly tribute art on the recording page!

Kato D has been making art for over 30 years, working in printmaking, painting, assemblage and digital art.  She has a BA in Philosophy and studied art in a personal betterment track at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of Representational Art in Chicago. She is a member of the Sutton Coldfield Society of Artists.
