Kathleen Denis – Exploring Gouache: All You Need to Get Started (Online Class Recording)

Date recorded: Friday, September 20, 2024
Medium: Gouache

Gouache is one of the most versatile and fun painting mediums, allowing you to paint similar to oils, acrylics and watercolors, but with different advantages. There is less mess, easy to make changes, effortless set-up and clean-up, and great for travel, using no solvents, only water, as a convenient grab-and-go medium.  And you can use it for quick studies or a finished painting.   In this class Kathleen will guide you through the ins-and-outs of how to use gouache, including your equipment, paints and surfaces so you can enjoy using it as much as she does.

* This class will not be about making a painting but more about how to use the medium.

This Class Will Include:

  • Choosing various surfaces to paint on.
  • Choosing your paints and colors.
  • Setting up a storage box with all your colors in it ready to use.
  • How to add medium to your paints so they are more fluid (like oils).
  • Which palette to mix your paints in.
  • Best brushes, spray bottles, tape (and more) to use.
  • How to pack it all up in a travel bag.
  • Demos of various ways to use gouache: Transparent, Opaque, Blending Edges, Gadgets and more.
  • How to adhere a gouache that is painted on paper to a board.
  • How to Varnish your final painting so you don’t have to mount it under glass.

All levels may attend.
