Join John Seed for the debut of his new 23 minute documentary, “More Black!”
“More Black!” explores the influence of European Expressionism in the San Francisco Bay Area beginning in the late 1930s and then focuses on the postwar period. It tells the story of three major retrospectives—Max Beckmann, Oskar Kokoschka and Edvard Munch—that travelled to the De Young Museum and also describes the impact made by the presence of Max Beckmann at Mills College in the summer of 1950. The influence of these artists on David Park, Elmer Bischoff and Nathan Oliveira is also discussed.
The film will be followed by a short discussion and Q and A.
