13brokenhorses (Brian McPhee), working in black and white acrylics, will guide viewers through a basic approach for painting a metallic surface. The importance of identifying local value, and understanding what makes a surface appear metallic. The mystery will be taken away, giving participants the confidence to add metallic objects to their own still-life compositions.
This will be part of Still Life In Black & White, the upcoming class, where participants will work on their own simple still life arrangements. Starting with identifying basic shapes and compositions and recognizing value contrasts. Value contrast is what creates form. An important step before introducing colour.
