Paul Bailey – The Gentle Coast (Online)
In this presentation Paul will paint a scene inspired by the often overlooked salt marsh landscape.
Since he was a child, Paul Bailey has been fascinated by the varied wild, remote, and areas of Britain, be it moorland, mountain or coastal low-land. Inspired by this deep passion for the British landscape, Bailey fuses his memories, helped by sketches and photos, with vivid colors and dynamic brushstrokes, to produce sometimes ethereal interpretations of the diverse, subtle, and dramatic scenery within these great isles.
Almost completely self-taught, Paul learned through books, by visiting galleries and by viewing work by other artists. He enjoys a wide variety of art genres, from Turner to Rothko.
In Paul’s own approach to his art, he looks for the abstract forms in nature, breaking the complex down to more basic elements.

I really loved this demo; I was fascinated by the pull between the controlled precise marks and the free and intuitive. The images resonated with me as I was born and grew up on Sheppey, an island in the Thames Estuary, and this is the type of landscape which is in my DNA, Thanks Paul.
I had to watch later and thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration. I very much appreciate the assurance of Paul’s approach and how it all comes together without any detail noodling.
I have Paul’s book. He moves with such solid confidence. It does become mesmerizing. His explanations are very clear and his process easy to follow. Very helpful! Very enjoyable! Thank-you!

I painted along with Paul and loved the experience. I understand of the excitement of approaching the landscape with his fresh and spontaneous style and I will try to take it outdoors once the weather warms up a bit (it will be snowing tomorrow…sigh) It went a bit fast for me keeping up and trying to catch up while Paul was showing other works. I will definitely be reviewing the workshop within the next few days. Thank you so much Paul! Excellent demonstration!

I watched the recording and really enjoyed seeing Paul demonstrate his painting process. I have his book, but seeing him in action was fun!
