As well as his well known landscape and seascape paintings, Paul has a deep fascination with portraiture. In this aspect of his practice, Paul expresses the human via abstracted form and colour.
In this demonstration, Paul will apply compositional abstraction, and alternative palette choices, to a portrait. Paul will also explain his composition process, colour choices and value appreciation alongside the importance of simplification.

Since he was a child, Paul Bailey has been fascinated by the varied wild, remote, and areas of Britain, be it moorland, mountain or coastal low-land. Inspired by this deep passion for the British landscape, Bailey fuses his memories, helped by sketches and photos, with vivid colors and dynamic brushstrokes, to produce sometimes ethereal interpretations of the diverse, subtle, and dramatic scenery within these great isles.
Almost completely self-taught, Paul learned through books, by visiting galleries and by viewing work by other artists. He enjoys a wide variety of art genres, from Turner to Rothko.
In Paul’s own approach to his art, he looks for the abstract forms in nature, breaking the complex down to more basic elements.
