Medium: All – Richard will work in pastel
In this technique takeaway we will be looking at nocturnes both in the city and in the rural landscape. Richard will present two demonstrations using soft pastels, one of an iconic view of London and another of a rural country scene. The emphasis will be on loosening up and capturing the essence of a subject without over working it to retain a fresh impressionist feel to the work. Although the presentation will on this occasion be in pastel it will still be of interest to students of other mediums wanting to tackle this alluring but challenging subject matter.

Richard Suckling studied illustration at Cambridge School of Art and worked for a number of years as an illustrator in London, before heading to the beautiful West of England to pursue a new career as a painter. He works almost exclusively in soft pastels and sells his work worldwide through galleries and privately through his social media pages and website.
He enjoys teaching regular workshops, throughout the UK, as well as pastel demonstrations and workshops on-line worldwide. He was one of the faculty members for Pastel Live in 2022, as well as appearing on Art School live with Eric Rhoads, and is currently a member of the advisory board for the Pastel Today website.
As well as writing regularly for magazines extolling the virtues of this amazing medium, including The Artist Magazine in the UK, articles on Richard’s work have also appeared in Plein Air Magazine in the US, Practique Des Arts in France, Pastel World Magazine in China.

Discover specific art techniques that you can ‘take away’ from some of your favorite artists and apply to your own work. This one-and-a-half hour recorded presentation will showcase a process that the artist incorporates in their art practice. Instruction will be through a combination of lecture and demonstration.
