Growing up in a house full of art supplies, Tim McCormack was always drawn to ink. Something about it felt serious, permanent, a mark you couldn’t take back.
Ink is the medium of the artist in the world, fast enough to catch a moment, expressive enough to give it feeling, portable enough to go anywhere. The great sketch artists, Topolski, Searle, Daumier, worked in ink because it was alive in a way no other medium matches. This course is rooted in that tradition.
People are the subject: portraits, figures, faces, characters caught in their environments. The face that carries a whole mood in a single mark. The figure that tells a story before the line is finished. Each session explores a different dimension of ink work, the decisive line, the expressive wash, colour accents for mood and atmosphere, using a kit that fits in a small bag and goes anywhere.
At the heart of it all: ink is the most unforgiving medium, and that is exactly what makes it free.
