Focusing on a corner of your home or another interior space is a wonderful way to study light and deepen your understanding of painting. When Susan Greenstein paints rooms in her home, she discovers new ways of seeing and appreciating familiar spaces. While traveling, she also loves painting and drawing the places where she stays or other interiors that capture her attention. These paintings become lasting memories—perhaps the most meaningful souvenirs she can bring home.
Join Susan as she demonstrates how to paint an interior space in watercolor. She will discuss what she looks for when selecting a subject, how she begins a painting, the compositional decisions she makes along the way, and how she brings the work to completion. Along the way, you’ll gain practical strategies for observing light, simplifying complex spaces, and creating paintings that capture the unique atmosphere and character of an interior.

Susan Greenstein lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA at Pratt Institute where she was exposed to many ways of working and looking at the world. A deep interest in pattern has been a constant inspiration for Greenstein. At times she finds these patterns while observing flora and architecture at how they are interwoven. At other times, Greenstein finds these patterns in a more abstracted form. This can especially be seen in her recent monoprints, which are inspired by memories of patterns.
