In this two-week course we will be heading into the great outdoors with our pastels to tackle a variety of landscapes and coastal subject matters. Working on location we will look at the materials needed and a set up that is both practical and mobile for use in the field. The approach will be interpretive and expressive as we try to capture something of the spirit of a place rather than just recording the scene in a purely representational way. Plein air painting can seem daunting to those who have not tried it before so we will take time to try and demystify the practice of painting outside and appreciate how it can positively impact our normal studio practice.
