Medium: Oil
Breathe new life into your unfinished oil sketches, alla prima studies, or less-than-stellar plein-air paintings! If you have been painting for any amount of time you likely have a few of these piled up. Oiling out, sanding down, and working over old paintings is a great way to develop subtlety and nuance – or to completely reimagine your ideas.
Catherine will lead you through this simple but technical trick in detail, with a step-by-step process that you can apply yourself. Learn how to apply opaque and transparent paint passages in layers over your old work to refine, develop and revitalize them!
Not only is this a great way to revisit old work, but oiling out, sanding, and painting over can be incorporated into your regular painting practice. It is a great way to expand your repertoire of textural effects. Combining alla prima and indirect techniques will bring a new sophistication to your work.
Recommended for oil painters of all experience levels.
$40 for one year

About Our Past Technique Takeaways:
Discover specific art techniques that you can ‘take away’ from some of your favorite artists and apply to your own work. This one-and-a-half hour recorded presentation will showcase a process that the artist incorporates in their art practice. Instruction will be through a combination of lecture and demonstration.
You’ll be able to watch the class recording as many times as you would like for one year unless otherwise specified in the product description. (If an instructor wishes their recordings to be available for less than a year, we defer to instructor preferences.) There are no ongoing charges and your access will automatically end.
A link to the recording will be included in your on-screen purchase confirmation, in your purchase confirmation email and on your Online Classrooms page.
