Matteo will demonstrate the process of painting an urban/neighborhood scene in a direct painting method. He will emphasize simplification of complex forms and how to prioritize where and when the refinement happens in a painting. Also, special attention will be given to value and lighting.

About the Instructor:
Matteo Caloiaro is a Florida native and an alumnus of Ringling College of Art and Design. He resides in Sarasota, FL with his wife and fellow artist, Brooke Olivares and their two kids, Sofia and Santino. Matteo is a painter, commercial artist and full-time instructor in the Illustration Department at Ringling College of Art and Design. Matteo is represented by Kiley Court Gallery in Provincetown, MA and Palm Avenue Fine Art in Sarasota, FL. He has participated in several gallery and museum exhibitions throughout the country. He is the recipient of several awards for his painting at both the national and international level. Matteo’s work has been published in several notable publications including: Southwest Art, Plein Air Magazine, International Artist Magazine, Art of the Portrait Journal, Under the Radar Magazine. Matteo’s work is collected both nationally and internationally. His work is part of numerous private and corporate collections, including the J.M. Smucker Co. and the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He works primarily in oil with a conceptual and narrative emphasis on portraying people and places with a sense of gritty realism.
