As an artistic statement as well as a financial investment, framing choices can enhance or detract from the appearance and security of your pastel work.  Mary Pritchard presents the pros and cons of a variety of framing styles and demonstrates an easy and affordable framing system for plein air pastels.  Using studio-created as well as commercially-available pastel grounds, she shows how to make custom pastel papers and boards to suit your framing choices, including an unusual panel to set your plein air pastels apart.

Mary Pritchard received her B.A in studio art from Mount Holyoke College and has Master’s degrees in both art and journalism. She was in-house corporate art curator for Ashland Oil, Inc., and has been a consultant to companies such as Nationwide Insurance Company and the Power Authority of the State of New York, advising on the acquisition, installation and conservation of art. She coordinated special events and traveling exhibitions for a variety of artists including internationally known landscape painter Wolf Kahn. Following a career in education administration at the University of Delaware, she returned to painting fulltime. An award-winning pastel artist, she is known for her landscapes of the Eastern Shore.
