Christine Lafuente is a still life and landscape oil painter known for her distinctive alla prima- or wet-into-wet-approach, with a particular focus on the interplay of color and light. Her paintings create form and space through drawing, passages of color, and precise yet expressive edges, balancing luscious, joyful brushwork with moments of restraint.

Working from the still life, this four-week workshop explores how the principles of viscosity can be used to layer wet-into-wet and complete a painting in a single session. Participants will learn how paint consistency affects brushwork, mark-making, and the way layers of color interact, while developing greater confidence in handling oil paint.

Christine will cover palette organization, limited color palettes, color mixing, the use of white pigments, toned grounds, and a variety of oil painting mediums and how they affect paint handling. The workshop will also explore tonal design, composition, studio setup, and the distinction between closed-form and open-form approaches.

Through demonstrations and guided painting, participants will investigate ways to establish proportion and accuracy of form while maintaining a fresh, expressive quality. The goal is to understand not only what to paint, but how to use paint itself- its viscosity, color, edges, and brushwork- to create a compelling alla prima still life.
