Master studies are one of the fastest ways to develop as a painter; and gouache makes them accessible, quick, and genuinely fun!
Fast-drying, portable, and endlessly versatile, gouache allows you to work quickly and intuitively, making it ideal for studying a wide range of paintings without getting bogged down in laborious detail.

In this four-week live workshop, we will use the sketchbook as a space to study master works across a variety of subjects. Each week we will explore a different subject, including: landscape, still life, portrait, and the figure. Through a simple, repeatable process, you will learn to analyze and interpret how great painters have used value, color, composition, and design to create work of lasting power and beauty.

This is not about copying paintings perfectly. It is about learning to see and understand the decisions that make a painting work, and to carry those lessons into your own creative practice.

All demonstrations will be in gouache, but students are welcome to work in oil or gouache. All levels welcome.
