Medium: Oil, acrylic, watercolor or gouache (Catherine will work in oil)
In this demonstration, we’ll dive deeper into the concept of color chords! Color chords are a powerful approach to selecting a limited palette with intention and artistry. Just as three musical notes form a chord that resonates with harmony, three carefully selected hues can generate a world of subtle and beautiful color relationships.
You’ll learn how to curate a triad of colors to guide your entire painting, creating unity without sacrificing complexity. We’ll explore how limiting your palette can actually give you more creative freedom by pushing you to interpret color rather than simply copy what you see. Along the way, we’ll discuss how different color relationships influence mood, focus, and emotional resonance.
While this demonstration will be in oil, students are encouraged to use whatever painting medium they like. Whether you’re new to limited palettes or eager to bring more intention to your color choices, this session will expand your understanding of color and open new pathways for personal expression in your work.
