Award-winning artist Brian Sindler will share insights into his creative process, demonstrating how he uses inadequate photographic references and less than desirable outdoor conditions to his advantage in his painting process.
Brian Sindler was born in Chicago in 1957. He received a bachelor of arts from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. He has exhibited widely in individual and group shows. In addition to gallery exhibitions, he has been a regular exhibitor at the Salmagundi Club in New York, the Plein Air Festival in Door County, Wisconsin, and the Cedarburg Plein Air Competition. He has been awarded numerous prizes in these competitions.

I wanted to point out, for those of your listeners who can’t afford Photoshop, that The Gimp is free (https://www.gimp.org/) and it provides most of Photoshop’s functionality. It will do the trick for you if you don’t need Photoshop’s most sophisticated capabilities. It has the Threshold tool you describe. It’s a safe tool without malware and without privacy issues. I started using it back in the aughts when I was designing the user interface at a software company and they wouldn’t spring for Photoshop, and it’s so useful I haven’t bought a Photoshop license since.
That was so interesting. I am a pastellist and can totally see how to use them using this method. I have been heading in this direction and you gave me what i needed – direction. Many thanks.
