Barbara Fugate – Color Connections (Online)

Join Barbara Fugate for an immersive work-a-long demo on Color Connections. Discover ways to connect colors in your art to provide balance, lead the eye, create relationships, and give feeling to the composition. Barbara will be working in a sketchbook, using gouache, watercolor, water-soluble crayons, and conte crayon. Participants can work with their medium of choice (such as paint, pastels, color pencils).

Barbara Fugate is a painter committed to making drawings and paintings that express life rather than imitate it. Discovering and experiencing “how things are” rather than “what they are” continues to inspire and drive Fugate’s art and art instruction. Fugate received a BFA from Western Kentucky University and a MFA in painting from Miami University of Ohio. Fugate has taught expressive drawing and painting classes and workshops in Seattle, as well as international workshops for over 25 years. Schools where Fugate has taught include Gage Academy of Art, Seattle Pacific University, Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (Victoria, BC), La Conner Art Workshops, as well as her own Seattle Weekend Art Workshops. Fugate’s artwork is published in “The Best of Drawing and Sketching” by Terry Sullivan, “Landscape Painting” by Mitchell Albala, and Margaret Davidson’s book, “Contemporary Drawing”.

I like to use a mixed media sketchbook paper. Anything 90 lb weight up to 110 or so. Fabriano makes a great mixed media sketchbook paper. Canson and Pentalic (Nature Sketch) is also good.

This is one of the best color classes I’ve ever taken. Barbara is a great teacher. She presents concepts with clarity and humor. I now look at art (including my own) with Color Connections in mind and it has opened up a whole new approach for me – both in viewing art and in creating it. Thank you Barbara!
