Class Description

Alice Neel was a 20th century figurative painter known for her expressive portraits. Neel’s sensitive blue contour lines and inventive colors reveal the inner psychology of the sitter, both in their faces and bodies. A close study of her paintings feels like an intimate conversation with a friend or stranger that is honest and real. Bring your art supplies to this “work along” portrait demo for a quick and energetic practice of painting in the manner of Alice Neel. Work in your sketchbook, on paper, or canvas. Barbara will be working with mixed media in her sketchbook. This demo is a preamble to Barbara Fugate’s upcoming two-session class, “Alice Neel: Imperfectly Perfect Color and Line”.
