There’s nothing as delicious and rewarding as painting peonies. These gorgeous flowers have been a source of constant inspiration for me.
In this class we will focus on peonies painting from photo references. The students are encouraged to send their own photos for review prior to starting the class. Alternatively, there will be several photos provided as references.
Yana Beylinson will draw on her significant experience painting flowers in a variety of ways, both from life and from a photo reference. In this workshop we will paint peonies in a direct alla prima style, building confidence in the process and honing fearless application of paint. We will emphasize a fresh approach of laying in luscious strokes to create form and volume.
Yana Beylinson will demonstrate the process, encouraging the students to first watch and then follow along. Guidance and discussion will be offered in: color mixing, choice of pigments and solvents, and brushes. Demonstrations will also be offered in impasto techniques, as well as creating a sense of space and movement in the painting.
Yana Beylinson is a professional painter who has exhibited in LA Art Show, 2023, Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Principle Gallery, and many others. Her current solo show “Synesthesia” is on view at Abend Gallery, Denver, CO. Beylinson’s work has won a number of awards, and belongs to private collections internationally.
