This course is geared towards oil painting in large format, from a photo reference. We will focus on florals as the subject appropriate for May. Suggested size of support: 24” or larger. Do not exceed 60 “ on the longest side.

In this class we will go through the following stages:

• Concepting and preparing your photo references
• Gridding techniques for accurate scaling
• Gauging and preparing your painting surface
• Methods of underpainting/underdrawing
• Palette organization and mixing
• Brushes and application

I always discuss the spiritual dimension of art in my classes. It is especially important when you embark on a large painting that might take months or even years to complete.

We will talk about the following:

• The importance of cultivating a strong vision and intent
• Goal setting and manifesting
• Establishing your creative practice
• Developing a resilient creative mindset

We will meet every week for the first three classes, building momentum and learning all the preparatory steps.

Following these sessions, we will take a strategic break for 1 week to allow you to get started and hopefully make significant strides in your painting working independently.

Upon reconvening in Week 4, our focus will be mostly on reviewing and equipping you to continue with your painting beyond the class. This approach ensures a balance between guided learning and independent creative expression.
