Supply List

Transform photo references into evocative, imaginative landscapes in this three-week course. We will call upon our memory and creativity to create work beyond replication. Go as wild as you’d like!

Day 1: Building Your Foundation
We’ll begin by creating a reference. I’ll demonstrate how to organize and search a database of photos, then guide you through building a reference image as a compilation. Let’s focus on making it imaginative rather than strictly “real.”

  • Planning Your Painting: Decide on the size of your piece—will it be a medium-sized board or a large canvas?
  • Preparing Your Surface: Learn my precise preparation process, which ensures you’re fully ready to begin painting. This critical step sets the stage for success.

Day 2: Exploring Creativity
I’ll introduce two fantastic methods to ignite your exploration of the imagined landscape:

  • Small Study: Use oil, acrylic, or your preferred medium with big brushes to create a loose quick energetic study.
  • Paper Collage: Dive into this approach by using painted copy paper to piece together something fresh and unexpected. This opens the door to the unknown!

These exercises will push your creativity and help you uncover new ideas.

Day 3: Bringing Your Vision to Life
With your reference, surface, and preparatory studies complete, it’s time to start your final piece.

  • Use bold brushstrokes and dynamic energy to infuse your painting with life and movement.
  • I’ll demonstrate how to paint with conviction and confidence, emphasizing personal expression and a sense of motion.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the tools to create an imagined landscape that captures not only the essence of your reference but also your UNIQUE ARTISTIC VOICE.
