To remember and celebrate the wonder of winter, let’s make some snow paintings! We’ll use my unique combination of transparent and opaque layering techniques to create snow paintings. Using Wayne’s layering techniques, you’ll learn how to capture the soothing colors and fluffy textures of snow and their radiate beauty in sunlight and shadows. You will also learn how to:

  • Paint the shape, shadow, and detail of snow more effectively;
  • Create deeper depth and dimension with the right combination of details, values, and colors;
  • Create translucency in snow by combining underpainting, transparent, and opaque layers;
  • Balance warm and cool colors more effectively;
  • Use simple color logic to explore different color combinations of the same scene.

This workshop will include painting demos, student work feedback sessions, slideshow presentations, and eye training exercises. These combinations of activities are designed to help refine your painting techniques and observation skills. Photo references are provided for this class. More experienced students can use their own snow references.
