The human eye can see millions of colors, and everyone sees color differently. Color is thought to be the most personal aspect of painting. Rarely is it possible (or even desirable) to match every color that you see. In this workshop, we will explore targeted exercises aimed at helping us develop more personal ways of thinking about and using color. We will discuss a little color theory, but we’ll focus more on specific exercises, such as working with a limited palette, creating high chroma and low chroma color schemes, exaggerating temperature relationships, and more. You will work in your own studio to explore the concepts from each lesson and may paint any subject you’d like, through Tracy strongly recommends that you work from direct observation. Working from life is key, especially when exploring color.

This workshop is suitable for any medium that uses color. Tracy’s demos will be in oil.

Tracy Everly is an award-winning painter. She has studied occasionally at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, but she is also largely self-taught, having put together her own educational path held together by dogged determination and love of art. Her teaching objective is to create a positive educational, empowering students to take risks, ask questions and pursue their own individual artistic path. Her method involves sharing her own artistic process fully and openly, aiming to help students build tangible foundational skills and to offer guidance about materials, but she also focuses on mindset and thought process as important aspects of creating art. www.tracyeverly.com

About Our Online Classes:

This class is taught live via Zoom. To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an iPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.
You will have access to an online class group message board on our website where you can share work, comment and ask questions. (Exact use of the message board, critique of student work and general class format is at the discretion of the instructor, please check course description for details.)
Class will be recorded and recordings expire 60 days after the final day of the course.
