J.M. Turner said, “Light is therefore color.” When painting from direct observation, light is everything. The primary light source we work under changes what we see in dramatic ways if we observe carefully and tune in to what we see. Leaning on temperature relationships especially can help build a sense of color unity in a painting.

Join Tracy Everly as she shares some thoughts about the role color temperature plays in her own work. She will demonstrate painting two different studies from the same simple objects – one in cool light and one under warm light – with the idea of building color harmony naturally.

Tracy Everly is an award-winning painter. She has studied occasionally at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, but she is also largely self-taught, having put together her own educational path held together by dogged determination and love of art.

Her teaching objective is to create a positive educational, empowering students to take risks, ask questions and pursue their own individual artistic path. Her method involves sharing her own artistic process fully and openly, aiming to help students build tangible foundational skills and to offer guidance about materials, but she also focuses on mindset and thought process as important aspects of creating art.  tracyeverly.com
