Being made of bricks and mortar, buildings are perhaps the epitome of solid, concrete form. But like anything we look at, they can be painted and drawn in many ways that convey feeling in addition to appearance.

In this weekly class, we will explore ways to approach painting buildings in the landscape, putting down what we see simply while also capturing a sense of both feeling and the specific. We will draw as a way to begin, and will work from life and from photos. This is not a class focusing on creating finished paintings but instead will focus more on process, fostering independent thought and approach. Our time we be spent exploring such things as composition and options, creating structure with value, and color harmony and unity, among other ideas.

Each week will likely include discussion of concepts, examples and either live or recorded demonstrations. Participants will draw and paint on their own between class sessions and can share work for feedback and ask questions in a private online group. Experience is helpful, but everyone is welcome.
