Dates: Wednesdays, March 2-23, 2022
Time: 10:30 AM-1:00 PM Pacific Time/1:30-4:00 PM Eastern Time/6:30-9:00 PM London Time
Medium: All (Tom will demo in oil)
For artist Tom Balderas, it is all about thinking in color, color relationships and their fundamental shape or what can also be called the “spot” or “note” of colors as they come together.
In this course you will learn to simplify those color spots as a way to begin or build a strong foundation for any painting. Tom will paint demonstrations from the still life and figure that will help you gain a clear understanding of the approach.
You will use each class demonstration as a road map to apply to the work you create between classes. Weekly critiques will be offered for those who wish to participate in that aspect of the presentations.
This course is especially suited for those who are just getting started with painting. No linear drawing experience is required. For the more experienced painter it can serve as a fun refresher to get back to basics or even offer an entirely new way of thinking about color in your work.
All painting mediums are welcomed. All levels welcome.
Growing up in Torrance, California, Tom Balderas lived only a few miles from the ocean, which has made nature, along with his family, the main inspiration of his paintings. Balderas attended Loyola Marymount University, where he studied film production and art. After graduating, he worked several years for NBC Productions and helped make many made-for-television movies. He then began studying under the tutelage of his photographer father, as well as Joseph Mendez, master painter and teacher. Balderas considers the time spent studying with Mendez to be the cornerstone of his growth as a painter. tombalderas.com
