Tim Tozer – Productive Limits: An Exploration in Three Colors (Online); Friday, November 22, 2024

Date: Friday, November 22, 2024
Time: 2:00-3:30PM Pacific Time/5:00-6:30 PM Eastern Time/10:00-11:30 PM London Time
Medium: All

Some of the most profound discoveries we make as artists can come through experimentation with means as well as techniques. By testing the approaches we have developed in our work, we might see familiar situations with new eyes, or reveal previously unseen possibilities.

Using black, white and yellow ochre acrylic, Tim will discuss how a limited palette can sharpen one’s awareness of a painting’s abstract language as well as its descriptive possibilities. Working from a still life, the demonstration will move between drawing, organizing space into broad zones of color, articulating form through value and temperature, and relating all these decisions to the composition of the whole.

Tim will also discuss visual concepts that can arise from dynamic simplification, such as figure/ ground relationships, light as color, tonal hierarchies and more.
