Medium: Ink & water-based media such as watercolor, gouache and acrylic
Learn Tim McCormack’s approach to staining, priming and glazing the pages of found books with his recipes to create the ultimate responsive surface to work on with ink and water-based media such as watercolor, gouache and acrylic.
Discover how ink lines and brushed paint go down with vibrancy and juiciness and soften beautifully when dry. Adding more layers of paint doesn’t result in a labored surface, but stays fresh.
Tim McCormack loves working on these surfaces to create a variety of painted subjects- portrait figures, cakes and sundaes, figures, and more. It allows him to paint flesh that is fleshier and ice cream that is creamier against backgrounds that resonate.
This approach will help you loosen up your approach and revive your spirits by trying something new and yet so familiar, like the found books you never thought to use as surfaces. It’s unexpected and exciting and gives a vision of new projects to work on with new possibilities.
