Learn how to draw people, figures and portraits and combine skill with imagination and a sense of play. Students will learn to make convincing drawings of people that grasp the individual’s personality and give them a distinctly personal touch. The course will introduce the necessary skills needed to draw the human figure, including proportion and basic human anatomy. They will use these tools to draw convincing poses that look three-dimensional. Tim’s unique approach to teaching drawing, developed over twenty years of teaching figure drawing to animation students, combines innovation with back to basics rigour. You will learn to apply these drawing approaches and strategies to urban sketching, personal artwork and figure drawing settings. You will learn realistic, stylized and character-driven approaches to drawing people, and capture attitude, body language with a few strokes of the pencil.

Exercises will be accompanied by examples from historical and contemporary artists that touch on the world of fashion, illustration and cartoons. Projects will be done with a variety of drawing materials with a mixed-media approach being encouraged. Resource material include photo-references provided by the instructor and students.
