Discover the beauty of everyday spaces through watercolor with Susan Greenstein. Whether at home or traveling, painting interior spaces offers a unique way to study light, composition, and atmosphere. Susan finds inspiration in the corners of her home, seeing them in a new light through her art. When she travels, she captures the essence of the places she stays, turning them into lasting visual memories.

In this 3 session class, Susan will guide you through her process—how she selects an interior space, begins her painting, makes compositional choices, and brings her piece to completion. Join her to learn how to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary works of art.

We will cover:

Week one:

Setting up materials. What to look for when painting an interior. We will discuss simple principles of perspective. Susan will do a demonstration, using a limited palette that will show how to begin and how to bring your painting to completion. We will look at some of artists who have painted interiors and discuss them.

Week two:

We will look at the work created by participants during the week and discuss. Susan will answer questions and we can discuss discoveries and challenges that each participant might have experienced as well as strategies to help with problem-solving. Susan will also provide a demonstration of moving into a broader spectrum of color with her painting. We will look at several more artists’ paintings of interiors and discuss them.

Week three:

We will create an inside/outside painting where we paint and interior, but also include some of the outside, (through a window or doorway) within our paintings. We will look at the work created by participants during the week and discuss, Susan will answer questions and we can discuss discoveries and challenges that each participant might have experienced as well as strategies to help with problem-solving. Susan will also provide a demonstration of an inside/outside painting that will show how to begin and how to bring your painting to completion. We will look at several more artists’ paintings of interiors and discuss them.
