Abstraction is the process of coding and decoding through color, shape, line, and texture. These elements of painting are combined, arranged, and extracted to form visual codes. To understand abstraction clearly, we will focus on basic elements as visual codes. This class will explore dot & line, blob, and automatism.
In each session, we will examine the work of two artists from different cultural backgrounds who engage with the same pictorial language and/or similar subjects. This approach aims to introduce and investigate abstraction on a global scale, beyond traditional “isms.” Selected artworks and subjects will reveal surprising resemblances and significant differences.
