Traditionally, sumi ink is paired with rice paper. In this class, we will explore incorporating sumi ink into painting using an acrylic medium. This approach allows us to highlight the blotting effect and wet-on-wet techniques on our surface without using rice paper. If you have taken the previous classes, “Sketchbook with Sumi-e” or “Exploring Greyscale through Mark Making,” this class will build on that knowledge, expanding your understanding of sumi ink and introducing you to more durable surfaces.
