Creating a personalized color voice is an important tool for the development of any painter. This 3-day workshop will explore interpreting color in the field and reference material, simplifying subject matter, and abstracting a scene as the means to strengthening the composition and concept of a painting.
Scott will start the workshop with an in-depth discussion of putting color to work in paintings – from color theory and mixing to pigment characteristics and color strategies. He will also discuss his process of using watercolor, gouache, casein and monotypes as sparks for his studio oil paintings.
We will be working out in the field (plein air) and in the studio. If you wish to work out in the field using other painting media, you are welcome to. We will be working in the studio in oils.
