Medium: Oil or acrylic

In this 3-week session of Abstracting the Landscape, we’ll explore some of the leading figures of Abstract Expressionism – the post-war movement that made New York the epicenter of the art world.  We will dive into some of the key principles of Ab-Ex painting and apply them to our own landscape-inspired works. Open to all oil and acrylic painters who are willing to let go, experiment and take chances!

Each session will start with a presentation/demonstration, followed by a series of painting exercises. Students will be able to show their work online for group discussions.

Scott Gellatly holds a degree in painting and drawing from the University of Oregon and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. A landscape painter at heart, Scott’s work has become more abstracted, with greater emphasis on pure color and gestural mark-making to evoke nature. Scott is an Oregon native and lives in Portland with his family. www.scottgellatly.com
