In this class, using various source materials including the still life, we will explore and play with the language of painting, from the abstract to the ‘real’,  to find ways to create dynamic work with weight, form and space. In each session, with a focus on developing that presence, we will tackle a different aspect of the painting puzzle. We will draw, paint, discuss, make some messes and, when appropriate, critique. The goal is always to make that more personal work that both engages and shares, however boldly or sensitively, our love and interest in a subject and the act of painting.

Scott Conary has been a working painter for more than 20 years, with work in collections across the country. His approach to teaching is to give the students the tools to express their ideas. Fundamentally, drawing and painting is an intuitive and expressive act. Technique and craft should be honed, but the artist must remain open and willing to play. And so must those who teach them. website
