In this class. we take the everyday at home moment and turn it into a poem of a painting. These interior paintings of family life are lyrical. They are about stilling a single moment that catches you, makes you still for a moment, wanting you to capture it.
In this class we will focus on
observing the light patterns in the home setting or exterior
how to spot a good painting
painting from life and from photos
determining what is important
the language of paint — simplifying and creating brushstrokes

how to choose a reference photo
how to simplify a scene into the essential planes and marks

Sarah Griffin Thibodeaux is a contemporary realist artist living in New Orleans. She paints the figure, still life, landscape, and portrait, using the alla prima technique.
Thibodeaux studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts with Auseklis Ozols and Dell Weller, the Art Students League in New York with Ronald Sherr and the Florence Academy of Art with Daniela Astone.
She paints portrait commissions, teaches still life and portrait oil painting at her atelier and workshop center, Studio Thibodeaux. She lives in New Orleans with her husband and twin boys.
Thibodeaux paints weddings, events, portraits, her own figurative works in oils and watercolors.
