In this class, students will learn the anatomy of the skull — the major bones, landmarks, and planes — and how this knowledge directly informs the painting of the portrait. Through guided demonstrations and exercises, we will practice painting skull studies from life or reference, focusing on light, form, and expressive handling of paint. We will also explore the skull’s rich historical symbolism in Western art. By the end of the course, students will gain both practical anatomical knowledge and a deeper understanding of the skull as one of art’s most powerful motifs. Overlapping with Halloween and Day of the Dead, this will be a fun, festive class!
