Date: Wednesdays, May 14-28, 2025
Time: 1:00-3:00 PM Pacific Time (4:00-6:00 PM Eastern Time/9:00-11:00 PM London Time)
Level: All
Medium: Oil

In 1883, the last year of his life, Manet painted a series of poignant flower bouquets from his bed. These touching observational still lives will act as inspiration for this three week painting workshop. Lectures will combine technical aspects of oil painting from observation such as composition, value, texture and color with art historical background and analysis. We will cover the impact of Manet’s work more broadly and the relationship between observational still life and modernism. This class is intended for any level of painter who is interested in exploring the subject matter of flowers through an art historical lens focused on the mid-nineteenth century.
