A two week pastel course looking specifically on how we interpret a subject and by simplifying the design we can amplify or strengthen the effectiveness of our paintings. Whether working from photographic reference or even more so en plein air, our ability to refine and edit a scene or subject is a vital skill for the artist. Following on from the technique takeaway ‘Seeing the forest from the trees’ this course will look closer at the ability to see the big picture and not get dragged down by the unnecessary detail. Over the two weeks we will cover both landscape and still life subjects and break them down with an effective approach to tackling seemingly complex motifs.
All demos will be in soft pastel but painters in other mediums may benefit from this two week course and it is suitable for all abilities.
