In this technique takeaway we will tackle a complex woodland scene with a carpet of Bluebells. We will look at the way that we can successfully see past the mass of details and create a convincing impression of the scene in pastel. The demo will explore a working method with soft pastel that combines both painterly and linear mark making to capture the impression of detail without overworking the surface. This approach translates well when painting en plein air where we must learn to edit the scene presented to us to be able to successfully capture the motif in a shorter time.
