The goal of this workshop is to improve your skill at painting landscapes from photos. Students will learn to create more dynamic work through focusing on taking better photos, using basic design concepts, sketching, and employing color theory. There are potential challenges to painting from photo reference including, image exposure, composition, and the implicit feeling that we are ‘legally bound’ to paint everything in the photograph. Philip hopes to show you how to develop new, more creative habits that identify the essence of the subject and brings forth your own ideas, leading to a more successful painting. Open to all painters.
Each session will include a painting demonstration, presentation of homework, and critique of student work. A materials list will be supplied at registration. Philip will be painting in oil color.
