Artist Philip Frey will offer pivotal lessons designed to develop your skills and confidence as a landscape painter and bring more light to your landscape images. You will learn to improve your paintings by understanding and applying the rules of drawing, composition and color. This will include: simplifying what you see through sketching and painting in ‘grisaille’ (black and white) and limited palettes. Also, you develop and understanding of the principles and tools (‘rectangular armatures’) fundamental to creating masterful compositions used by the Old Masters as well as other’s methods, such as Edgar Payne. Be prepared to be challenged artistically, develop insights, and have fun. Open to all painters.

Each session will include a presentation/demonstration, followed by a series of painting exercises and instructional review of student work. A materials list will be supplied at registration. Philip will be painting in oil color.

Philip Frey is not only an inspiringly dynamic artist and but a patient and insightful teacher. His workshop transformed the way I look at the world and how I now approach the ever daunting blank canvas….which is now with confident intention! Having access to and learning from an artist of his caliber is truly a gift.

I very much enjoyed the acrylic and watercolor workshops with Philip.  He not only provided helpful technical tips on how to work with the media; but he also helped me tap into my expressive side.  I highly recommend his workshops, and I welcome another chance to participate in one.
